Flakpanzer IV 'Ostwind'

El Flakpanzer IV 'Ostwind' fue el último cañón AA autopropulsado basado en el chasis del Panzer IV que entró en servicio (su hermano mayor, el Kugelblitz nunca llegó a tiempo). Habiendo perdido la superioridad aérea, la Wehrmacht necesitaba una plataforma AA más capaz para proteger a sus Panzers de los temidos Jabos aliados. Así pues se mejoró el diseño del Wirbelwind añadiendo el potente 3.7 cm Flak 43, superior en alcance y poder de detención.

The Flakpanzer IV 'Ostwind' was the last Self-Propelled AA Gun based on the Panzer IV chassis who entered service (its bigger brother, the Kugelblitz never made it in time). Having lost air superiority completely, the Wehrmacht needed a more capable SP AA to shield its battered Panzers from the dreaded Allied Jabos. Thus, they improved the Wirbelwind design with the powerful 3.7 cm Flak 43, superior in range and stopping power.

Para mis Compañías Panzer de 1945 son vitales. En primer lugar se encargan de proteger a los carísimos gatos de cualquier amenaza aérea, liquidando a esos molestos AOP por el mismo precio. Pero la mejor parte reside en su versatilidad, pudiendo actuar de carros ligeros de ser necesario, eliminando Recon, semiorugas, infantería... Por supuesto hay que ser cuidadoso, ya que no tienen ninguna oportunidad frente a ATs ligeros. Yo prefiero la batería completa de 4 piezas por su mayor supervivencia y poder de fuego.

For my 1945 Panzer Companies, these guys are a must. They will protect your expensive behemoths from any air menace, wiping those nasty AOPs as an added value. But the best part is they are absolutely multi-purpose, acting as light tanks when needed, killing enemy Recce, halftracks, infantry... Obviously you have to be careful, as they don't stand a chance against light AT guns. I favor the full 4-gun battery due to superior survivability and firepower.

Estos Ostwind de BF incluyen las nuevas orugas de plástico de los Panzer IV, con detalles bien marcados y sin flash. La mala noticia es que... no se llevan bien con el cuerpo de resina. La parte inferior del casco suele aparecer ligeramente curvada, con lo que el encaje con las orugas, perfectamente rectas, no es tan bueno como uno podría desear.

These BF Ostwinds included the new plastic Panzer IV tracks: all crisp and clean. Bad news are that... they don't get along well with the resin body: the lower hull is prone to appear slightly bent and it took me a while to get a good fit with the straight track pieces.
