Para mi primera lista SS, he escogido a los voluntarios supervivientes del 'Freikorps Danmark', integrado dentro de la 11 SS-Panzergrenadierdivision 'Nordland' junto a los restos de la 'Legion Norwegen'. La Compañía es sencilla y sin mucha originalidad: tres pelotones PzG equipados con armamento AT adicional respaldados por las tradicionales y necesarias unidades de apoyo del batallón, los siempre útiles Nebelwerfer y un par de 8-rads para aportar Recon y un poco de movilidad. Los carísimos Königstiger Veteranos, del 501. s.Pz.Abt de élite, están únicamente por su factor de "moloneidad", ya que van a tener que dar lo mejor de sí mismos para intentar compensar los puntos que cuestan. En resumen, una Compañía defensiva estática, equilibrada y con malas perspectivas para afrontar la mayoría de misiones móviles.

For my first SS list, I have chosen to field the battle-hardened survivors from 'Freikorps Danmark', now integrated into 11 SS-Panzergrenadierdivision 'Nordland' alongside the remnants from 'Legion Norwegen'. The Company is plain and straightforward: three PzG Platoons fitted with extra AT weapons, backed by the mandatory Battalion support units, the ubiquitous Nebelwerfers and a couple of 8-rads to add some Recce and mobility. The lavish Veteran Königstigers from the elite 501. s.Pz.Abt are included just for badassery, as they will have to outperform themselves to match their staggering cost. Overall, a pretty static, well balanced defensive Company, ill-suited to face most mobile missions

Seguimos con otra versión del popular Panzer Kampfgruppe. Con una estructura de 7 pelotones, y sin posibilidad de hacer, a su vez, KG, esta formación es un tanto inusual. A pesar de tratarse de una Compañía Acorazada, cuenta tan sólo con 8 carros, y apenas 3 pelotones capaces de asaltar con ciertas garantías. La Compañía está bien equipada para controlar mesas abiertas, con buenas líneas de tiro, bajo el paraguas de largo alcance de los FlaK y los Jagdpanther, pero los carros principales son poco maniobrables, y fuera de ahí hay poca capacidad de proyectar fuerza.

And now, another version of the wildly popular Panzer Kampfgruppe. With a 7-Platoon structure and deprived of the German KG ability, this Trained formation is quite unusual. Albeit it remains a Tank Company, it sports just 8 of them, and only 3 Platoons hardly capable of Assaulting. It is well suited to control open fields, with good shooting lanes, enabling the main strike force to maneuver under the long range AT umbrella provided by the FlaK and the Jagdpanthers. Still, the armoured core is helplessly slow, and outside it, the Company has little capability of projecting force.

Sin fuentes de humo disponibles, la Compañía confiará en su velocidad y veteranía para sobrepasar los puntos débiles enemigos y hacerse con la victoria.

This Veteran version of the battle-tested Panzer Kampfgruppe is pretty straightforward: 15 tanks backed by a Recce Patrol to soften the Assault on Prepared Positions and harry light vehicles. With no smoke sources available, the Company will rely on its speed and Veterancy to overrun enemy weakpoints and seize the victory.

La nueva iteración de la Ersatz Pionierkompanie de Rgarcim promete ser mucho más robusta que su antecesora. Con 2 pelotones más que pueden ser 3 si decide hacer un KG con las ametralladoras, la lista tiene mucha presencia en mesa, y cuenta nada menos que con 4 pelotones móviles. Entre los "peros", cabría destacar su fragilidad en ataque, algo que no nos sorprende dada la naturaleza defensiva de la misma, y el pequeño tamaño de algunas unidades, que puede ser un problema en caso de un combate prolongado.

Rgarcim's new iteration of his Pionierkompanie is meant to be more sturdy than its old version. It sports 2 more Platoons, adding a third one using the Kampfgruppe ability (with the HMGs from the HQ, most likely), thus expanding its grasp over the battlefield. The list have 4 mobile Platoons, but its performance on the attack is uncertain, due to its defensive nature and the small size of some units, which is going to be a hindrance in prolonged battles.

La Panzerkompanie de Laro es ciertamente única, con una estructura de 5 Pelotones y abundante apoyo aéreo. Veamos, 14 carros CV con Schürzen y una patrulla Recon es algo a tener en cuenta en una compañía acorazada agresiva como ésta. Carece de plantillas de humo, pero los Panzer IIIN pueden proyectar humo directo a 60 cm. Por otro lado, el carísimo pelotón Fallschirmjäger a pie no parece adecuado para apoyar el ataque de los carros. El bajo AT de la lista puede causarle problemas cuando se enfrente a carros enemigos de entidad; en ese caso los Stuka tendrán que afinar la puntería (sólo están armados con bombas). Defendiendo, es obligada la opción de crear el Kampfgruppe para disponer de 6 pelotones, aumentando la fragilidad de los principales, confiandoen su habilidad 'Elite Troops' para aguantar más tiempo en mesa.

Laro's Panzerkompanie is one of a kind, with its 5-Platoon structure and plenty of Air Support. Let's see: 14 C/V tanks fitted with Schürzen and a Recce Patrol are both good choices for an aggressive Tank list like this. Surprisingly, it lacks any kind of smoke bombardment, but the Panzer IIIN may make it up for shooting direct smoke up to 60 cm. On the other hand, the lavish Fallschirmjäger Platoon on foot can hardly support the highly mobile tanks. The low AT threshold may be a hindrance against heavy enemy armour; in that case the list relies heavily on the Stuka, which are only fitted with bombs. On the defence, it is mandatory to build a Kampfgruppe in order to reach 6 Platoons, thus weakening the main ones, trusting their 'Elite Troops' ability to keep fighting in spite of casualties.

La Fallschirmjägerkompanie de Panzerkanone es un de las formaciones más de élite de Alemania. Gracias a su rating Fearless y su habilidad de pasar morales a 2+, estos soldados lucharán literalmente hasta la aniquilación. Se trata de una unidad eminentemente estática, con un único pelotón blindado. Tenaz en defensa y con posibilidades en ataque gracias a sus fuentes de humo y pineo.

Panzerkanone's Fallschirmjägerkompanie is one of the most elite formations in all Germany. Veterans from Cassino, their Fearless rating and their ability to pass Company and Platoon Morale checks on a roll of 2+ means these seasoned warriors will fight to the bitter end. This is a mostly static unit, with just a single Armoured Platoon. Tenacious on the defence, it still gets good chances when attacking, thanks to its multiple smoke/pinning sources.

Aunque pequeña, la Tan'kim de Chendo es una fuerza obstinada y dura de roer. El cañón del Isherman es más que un reto para los mal tripulados T-55, y los Centurion pueden soportar una enorme cantidad de daño antes de desfallecer.

Albeit a small force, Chendo's Tan'kim is stubborn and hard to crack. Isherman's gun is more than a match for the poorly manned T-55, and the Centurions can withstand a lot of punishment before faltering.

I Liga Golani arrives in September!

Tras una serie de retrasos y algún que otro bache en el camino, finalmente la I Liga Golani arrancará este mes. Se trata de una competición muy modesta, con sólo tres participantes por el momento y alguno más en camino. Queríamos explorar las posibilidades del FoW post-2GM en un entorno atractivo, con una puntuación limitada (850-1250) y aplicando la regla "Across the Volga" a la artillería pesada (principalmente para ahorrar dinero). A lo largo de esta semana iré publicando las listas de los 6 participantes. ¡Buena suerte y buena caza! ¡Permaneced conectados!

After a series of delays and some bumps on the road, finally I Liga Golani is taking off this month. It will be a modest competition, with only 3 participants by now, but more on the way. We wanted to explore the possibilities of post-WWII FoW in an exciting environment, with a low point threshold (850-1250) and applying the 'Across the Volga' rule to heavy artillery guns (mainly to save money). Throughout this week I will upload the lists of the forces involved. Stay tuned!

Sin sorpresas por aquí. Habiendo jugado únicamente 3 partidas (2 victorias, 1 empate) con los Jagdtiger en la pasada Liga, me apetecía ver un poco más de acción con ellos. Así pues, los diezmados restos del schwere Panzergruppe Hudel vuelven a la carga de nuevo.

No surprises here. I only played 3 games (2 wins, 1 draw) with the Jagdtigers during the past League and I wanted some more action. So, the war-torn remnants of the schwere Panzergruppe Hudel are on the road again!

Definitivamente una opción atípica, la Ersatz Pionierkompanie de Rgarcim gravita alrededor de dos debilitados Pelotones de ingenieros desprovistos de cualquier apoyo estático. Si bien pueden tender campos de minas o alambradas y poseen Tank Assault 5, parecen demasiado frágiles para soportar un asalto decidido de infantería. Claramente, en este caso, la parte del león ha ido a parar a los dos Elefant, de dudosa eficacia. Además, la estructura de 5 Pelotones obligará a Rgarcim a crear un KG en Misiones Defensivas a partir de los Combat Platoons, reduciéndolos aún más. Por otro lado, en ataque, sus dos robustas unidades acorazadas son un valor a tener en cuenta.

Definitely an atypical choice, Rgarcim's Ersatz Pionierkompanie gravitates around two understrength Pionier Platoons deprived of any static support. Althought they can lay miefields or barbed wire and have an amazing Tank Assault 5, they look too weak to withstand a tenacious infantry assault. Clearly in this case, the lion's part went to the pair of Elefants, of dubious performance. Moreover, its 5-Platoon structure will force Rgarcim to create a KG from the Combat Platoons, shrinking them even further. However, on the attack its two robust armored units are an added value.

La Compañía alemana de Carlos es una ligera modificación de su exitoso Panzer Kampfgruppe. esta vez se ha decidido por descartar la infantería en favor de una pareja de Ostwind a fin de proteger los valiosos Panther de cualquier amenaza de los Jabo. El resto es similar, aumentando sus imponentes números con un StuG adicional. No obstante, la carencia de infantería puede convertirse en un serio problema en caso de ser el defensor.

Carlos' German Company is a slight modification of his successful Panzer Kampfgruppe. This time, he discarded the Panzergrenadiers to make room for a couple of Ostwinds, thus protecting the invaluable panthers from any Jabo menace. The rest is pretty much the same, bolstering its imposing numbers with an additional StuG. Nevertheless, the lack of infantry may be a serious hindrance in case of defending.

La Sturmkompanie de Panzerkanone es una formación Veterana llena de Panzerfaust que evitarán cualquier asalto blindado que no venga precedido de una costosa preparación. Los PaK pueden adjuntarse a los Combat Platoons, posibilitando una buena base de fuego a costa de reducir el número de pelotones. No obstante, esta Compañía no parece capaz de ocupar demasiado terreno, ya que la mayor parte de sus pelotones son pequeños. Además, su pegada en Emboscadas es baja por la escasez de bocas de fuego, pero la presencia de dos unidades acorazadas le otorga más solvencia en caso de tener que atacar con ella.

Panzerkanone's Sturmkompanie is a Veteran force flooded with Panzerfaust that will prevent any armored assault that does not come preceded by a costly preparation. The PaKs may be attached to Combat Platoons, adding more firepower at the expense of cutting back the number of Platoons. However, this Company does not seem able to defend too much ground, as most of their Platoons are certainly small. Also, expect a low performance in Ambushes due to gun dispersion, but the presence of two nice armored units will be very welcome when playing as the attacker.

Laro llevará una correosa Panzergrenadierkompanie de la Hermann Goering Fallschirm-Panzer Division. Estos curtidos Veteranos repiten tiradas fallidas de Moral de Pelotón y Compañía, y pueden adjuntar los PaK a los Combat Platoons, haciéndoles realmente temibles. Por otro lado, esta fuerza es ciertamente estática, sólida en defensa, pero limitada para atacar a un enemigo bien pertrechado. Para mi gusto, dos Pelotones de infantería son escasos y con poco margen para absorber bajas, y la Compañía no tiene demasiada pegada al asalto, pero 4 PaK 40 y 4 FlaK 36 con Extra Crew van a hacer la existencia de los carristas enemigos muy entretenida.

Laro will field a tough Panzergrenadier Kompanie from Hermann Goering Fallschirm-Panzer Division. These battle-hardened Veterans repeat failed Platoon and Company Morale checks and may attach the PaKs to the Combat Platoons, making them truly fearsome. On the other hand, this is a pretty static Company, strong in defense, but ill-suited to attack a well prepared enemy. Also, IMHO, two infantry Platoons are not enough to deal with mounting casualties and the Company itself lacks strength in Assaults, buy 4 PaK 40 and 4 FlaK 36 (w/ Extra Crew) are going to make enemy tankmen's life pretty interesting.

Flakpanzer IV 'Ostwind'

El Flakpanzer IV 'Ostwind' fue el último cañón AA autopropulsado basado en el chasis del Panzer IV que entró en servicio (su hermano mayor, el Kugelblitz nunca llegó a tiempo). Habiendo perdido la superioridad aérea, la Wehrmacht necesitaba una plataforma AA más capaz para proteger a sus Panzers de los temidos Jabos aliados. Así pues se mejoró el diseño del Wirbelwind añadiendo el potente 3.7 cm Flak 43, superior en alcance y poder de detención.

The Flakpanzer IV 'Ostwind' was the last Self-Propelled AA Gun based on the Panzer IV chassis who entered service (its bigger brother, the Kugelblitz never made it in time). Having lost air superiority completely, the Wehrmacht needed a more capable SP AA to shield its battered Panzers from the dreaded Allied Jabos. Thus, they improved the Wirbelwind design with the powerful 3.7 cm Flak 43, superior in range and stopping power.
