Building the Ausbildungs - Part 1 - HQ Panthers!

With the release of the new intelligence book for Late War, 'Desperate Measures', I began to cherish the idea of building a motley ad hoc armored unit from early 1945, made ​​of surviving tanks from several combat units, poorly equipped training vehicles and refurbished units from several workshops. This diversity will allow me to 'recycle' tanks and Panzerjäger that currently support other infantry companies in small numbers, such as StuG or Brummbär, so I only need to make a handful of purchases to complete the list I want to field.

The backbone of this Ausbildungs formation will be a pack of 4-5 Panthers from various sources that will provide the much needed heavy AT. So, I will field the full Panther Ausbildungs Platoon (3 units) and the 2iC Panther, who will fight alongside them to make good use of his skills (Mission Tactics and Sturmtruppen). On the other hand it makes sense the 1iC to use a StuG to support (and meld with) the main assault unit saving some points. Anyway you always can draw extra points from other Platoons to upgrade the 1iC if required.

Tras el desastre de la ofensiva alemana de las Ardenas, la mayor parte de la 2. Panzerdivision acabó siendo copada, y tan sólo un puñado de hombres y equipo lograron regresar a las líneas alemanas.

Más tarde, los supervivientes se integrarían con la brigada Panzer de Turingia (Panzer Ausbildungs Verband Thüringen), una amalgama de unidades de entrenamiento procedentes de varias escuelas Panzer reunidas apresuradamente para detener el avance americano sobre el corazón de Alemania.

Historical Context

All models have their little history. I envisioned this couple of Panthers belonging to the Stabskompanie (HQ Company) of I./3. Panzerregiment, the First Battalion of the 3rd Panzer Regiment (2. Panzerdivision), and part of KG Cochenhausen. After the disaster of the German Ardennes offensive, most 2. Panzerdivision ended up being cut off, and only a handful of men and equipment made ​​it back to German lines. 

Later, the survivors would absorb the Thuringen Panzer Brigade (Panzer Ausbildungs Verband Thüringen), a motley amalgam of training units from various Panzer schools hastily mustered to stop the American advance into the heart of Germany.

The Panthers are from the Plastic Soldier Company, and have been built as Ausf. G, the latest variant used in the war, unprovided with Zimmerit. These two units have been finished in Oxidrot as base color, characteristic of vehicles from late 1944, with Dunkelgelb and Olivgrün sprayed over as hard edged camouflage. I have used several techniques for the first time, as the use of enamel filters and washes, a more realistic chipping technique as well as pigments heavily applied on the tracks, skirts and low hull.
