Korsun-Cherkassy pocket #5: Novo Buda - Preview

El Ejército Rojo, finalmente consiguió detener la inesperada contraofensiva alemana hacia Cherkassy, copando al maltrecho Gruppe Stemmermann. Dentro de la bolsa, los suministros disminuyen rápidamente, y el fantasma de un segundo Stalingrado persigue a los soldados de la Wehrmacht. Pronto se dan cuenta de que la fuerza de rescate (el 1. The Red Army, finally managed to halt the unexpected German counteroffensive towards Cherkassy, cutting off the battered Gruppe Stemmermann. Inside the pocket, supplies are rapidly dwindling, and the ghost of a second Stalingrad haunts Wehrmacht soldiers. They soon realise that the main relief force (Hube's 1. Panzerarmee) is too weak to pierce its way through the stubborn Soviet defenses; so, it is decided to launch a thrust to the Southwest, towards Lysyanka, moving the pocket South hoping to link up with Hube's force. 



Historically, the German offensive began on 11 February 1944 with a night attack to seize the village of Novo Buda* (today Nova Buda). That time, Major Robert Kästner caught the Soviets unaware; now, the German Panzergrenadiers will face a prepared, determined and well-supplied enemy. The mission will be Hold the Line. A German victoy would open the road to Komarovka. Should the Red Army wins, they will take the initiative to launch a full force counterattack towards Steblev to crush the pocket's heart.

In addition, to represent German ammo shortage:

>All indirect fire weapons may only make one reroll to try to range in. (Mortars still get their reroll on the initial ranging in attempt.)

*On BF's website, the starting point for the second mini-campaign is wrongly stated as 'Shanderovka', which would not be seized by Kästner's men until 13 February, after securing the village of Komarovka itself.
